The land is gently rolling along the west banks of the lake and will provide a picturesque setting in which to test the mettle of golfers.There will be three water holes and total championship yardage will be almost 7000, Par for the course will be 72, There will be four par 5 holes; four par3; and ten par 4,The complete irrigation system will serve tees, greens, and fairways.20»Acre Practice AreaAlso included in the plans are 20 acres for a practice area..o-x-GRAND PRAIRIE MUNICIPAL GOLF CLUBHOUSE.. . .Architect's concept of the proposed clubhouse, pro shop. mg will be of Colonial architecture, with all conveniencesand locker quarters for the Grand Prairie Municipal Golf for a golfing public. The masonry type buiid-The modern clubhouse, overlooking Mountain Creek Lake will be superintended by a pro manager.If all goes well, the course should be ready for play by spring of next year, Fairways have already been cleared and the building of greens is under way.Substantial Margin ProvidedThe course is only eight minutes from downtown Grand Prairie and the GP toll exit. It is expected to draw players from throughout the area.Annual estimated revenue Is placed at $59,000, Annual estimated expense has been set at $40,000, thus providing a substantial margin of income over operating costs. Golf courses in the early Fifties were doing well to break even, but interest in the game has put most municipal courses on the profit side of the ledger.No added taxes or new bond issues are contemplated.After carefully examining the city’s position, City Manager Clifford A. Johnson and the City Commission turned up some $100,000 worth of city property which was not being used and likely never would be. Another $50,000 was already earmarked as park bonds and the last $50,000 will come from water and sewer bonds to finance the park's sprinkler system.The Mountain Creek Lake Park will likely become one of the area’s most popular spots for recreation and relaxation.
