A beautiful day. preceded by others of its kind, stamped the liret mark of success on ail the arrangements and till the last or the little folks had left the dancing floor at Queens park last night not an untoward incident happened to mar the unalloyed Joy of the thousands ofchildren for whose pleasure the program was prepared. With the weather man doing his level best, the mothers played up to him in filmy frocks tor the little girls .iAd summer raiment for the boys and tno picture on the oval a, the park with the Maypoles merrily going, the hands playing, the children dancing dainty measures and the watchfulmultitude of grownups looking on.was one that will linger long in thememory of those who saw it.The throng of happy youngsters was made up. not only of New \Y**st minster children, but of young visitors from Vancouver and all the thickly populated municipalities which surround this city. They flocked to Queens park to intend the crowning of Queen Eva and to enjoy themselves; they did themselves and their fair queen proud and they all certainly had a good time. All during the* morning hours visi-lors were arriving in the city. They came by autos, by railway, by electric cars and in carriages, in all mi inhering thousands. All were in gala at-lire and long before noon the streets were crowded by one of the largest and happiest thongs ever welcomed to New Westminster. The May Day festivities began at 12:30 o'clock. Special conveyances carried Queen Jean McPhail. May Queen-elect Eva Atkinson and their maids of honor from their respective hones to the Russell hotel where Manager Henderson had prepared the. royal suite. The committees met them here and Master of Ceremonies J. J. Johnston delivered the officialbouquets. On library square and Agnes street Eire Chief Watson and other official* prepared the line up of the parade.Headed by Master Clarence Talt Shetland pony, the processionhundreds of feet to right and left of lhe royal box were packed to their utmost capacity by thousands of intent-ted spectators, men, women and children. The kaleidoscopic sight presented by the varied colored dresses throughout the stands was one of the most pleasing that eye could rest upon. Directly in front of the royal stand were assembled the school children, rank upon rank, ready to participate in the folk dance and Maypole dance, upon the conclusion of the crowning ceremonies. Further beyond and upon both sides of the immense field were hundreds upon hundreds of spectators, making an ever changing and ever fascinating spectacle.Decidedly the most interesting feature of the entire day was the crowning of the May Queen. The exercises were opened by J. J. Cambridge introducing the master of ceremonies,Sisthefrredrpcgaed us to the throne, and the noble mon who have given so much time and labor to preparations for our coronation.“We shall cause our prime minister to confirm all existing appointments, for we are satisfied that our court will thereby carry out the royal desire that everything possible may be dune by our mayor and council to strengthen our power in the land and to make our capital known everywhere as a place where all may dwell in peace and happiness.“It will be our pleasure to carry on the work of the Sunshine society, inaugurated by our predecessor, and trust that thereby much happiness may he brought to many whose lives have been darkened bjT Borrow and suffering.**We command that our lord chain-btrlaln now proclaim the festivities arranged by our privy council.”Dancing Prizes. From a foundation laid by Miss Lena Cots worth and Hugh Savage at the festival of 1913, the folk and May. pole dancing has become a perm an* ent fixture at the annual ceremony, yesterday’s event being one of the splendid features of the afternoon. The Fred W. Howay school won fa’tit prize in the folk dancing and Queensboro school captured first and the Judge Howay banner in the May. pole dancing.Every school in the city wag rep-res( nted in the folk and Maypole dancing, the keen competition and the closeness of the score cards of the Judges indicated that unusual efforts had been made by the principals and teachers of each institution In the training period. The one real but popular surprise ’ s of the afternoon was the success of the Queensboro school in capturing the special cup in the Maypole dance.1 Principal Crandall’s students, who ! included a Japanese boy, were the j first to take the platform and withcRg*sfclmd(e*•€Hiccoftlt!P11FaoJ.
