SUNDAY BLAZE HIT BUSINESS DISTRICT HARD—SEVERAL BUILDINGS BURNED.HAPPENINGS OVERTHESTATE%General New* of Iowa Collected and Condensed from Many Source* that Will Prove of Interest to Our Reader*.Maurice—Fire starting in a movingpicture theater over the Woodna. Mareias restaurant Sunday morning wiped out a large section of business buildings in Maurice aud caused a loss estimated at $25,000. The fire raged until the frame builditigi adjacent to its origin were a mass -of smoking ruins. Buildings totally destroyed are:Barber- shop and pool hall, ownedby Joe Douglas.Heu ink veld Mercantile company.Garage, owned by P. J, Moran.Restaurant and moving pieture show building, owned by Mrs, Ellen Lynch.It is assumed that the fire was caused by some'oE the apparatus in the moving picture show, although there is no way of telling, as the show was closed about 11 o’clock and no one was in the place at the time.Adjoining the building in which the show and restaurant were located was a frame structure containing the stock of the mccantilo company. This building and ail of the contents were 'totally wiped out. Next to the mer-caclUe company's building was a pool hall and barber sliop, and it. too, was burned to the ground. The garage occupying a building adjoining the barber shop and pool hall also was completely destroyed- On the corner next to the garage stands a brick building in which is located the poutoffice. This escaped without damage. Directly across the street from the fir® Is the Maurice hotel, a frame building.but jt. wan saved.The lose la almost total, for verylittle Insurance was carried on any of ♦he buildings. Mrs. Ellen Lynch is ♦he heaviest loser, she being owner of the building in which were located the pool halt and barber shop, as well as Hu; one where the mercantile company did business,
