The Knox County Housing Authority is considering a pro posal to construct a 4-store complex at the northeast cor ner of the Public Square. The project, proposed by Jo seph Indelicato, owner of Joe the Tailor and Cleaner ad jacent to the lot in question, would have to be approved by both the ECHA and the De partment of Housing and Ur ban Development since the lot is part of the authority’s ur ban renewal project. The site is currently being used as a parking lot. Another portion of the urban renewal project in that area will be acted on June 1, Jo seph West, KCHA attorney, said at a meeting yesterday. The deed for a new motel, to be called Galesburg Motor Lodge, will be signed then. The motel is part of the How ard Johnson chain. YET TO BE determined is the financing of the project. If lending agencies are satis fied KCHA members also will be, West said. Representatives of city and Knox County requested KCHA members to allow them use of a roof at Moon Towers for installation of a 30-foot radio tower for the proposed city county law enforcement build ing. The tower must be con structed 150 feet above street level and the new law enforce ment building will only be 40 feet high, said Fire Chief Ted Webber. He assured ECHA members the tower would be safe on the roof of Moon Towers. Authority members also vot ed to install an intercom sys tem on all the floors of Moon Towers. The Galesburg Fire Department made the sugges tion. Tenants also would like the system installed, Alice Egan, executive director, said. In a hearing before the reg ular ECHA meeting John Hall, former employe of the author ity, protested his employment being terminated. About 24 tenants were present to testify that Hall had adequately done his maintenance job on their apartments. Louise Wilder, the city’s human relations of ficer, also was present but was not allowed into the hear ing, she said. A decision on the matter has not yet been made, said Mrs. Egan. She said Hall was fired for ‘failure to progress in the department.”
