On Dec. 20. 1965, he again began radio broadcasting, this time with KSWS-Radio a 50,000-watt station covering New Mexico and adjoining states. He pioneered with a good music format. He utilized his two broadcasting mediums to the maximum in the promotion, education and entertainment of New Mexico. The functional building and studios at 1717 W. Second is one of the1I#show places of Roswell.j Mr. Barnett has received many honors but one of which he was exceptionally proud was the regional (New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and El Paso, Tex.) Sertoma Club “Service to Mankind award”.:UjThe presentation was made on March 1, 1959, in Roswell.Mr. Barnett had many civic accomplishments. He became interested in the Cancer Crusade many years ago and served as president of the Cancer Society and in later years as president and member of the board of directors of the New Mexico Division of the American Cancer Society.Another of his outstanding achievements was the founding * i of the YMCA movement in Roswell. He and the late Field Rob-i-i, inson were the joint founders. He was a member of the FirstMethodist Church, a former di-'• I rector of the Roswell Chamber djof Commerce and an original lt I member of the New MexicoeSafety Council.In 1944 Mr. Barnett received 0 a Secretarial Citation from the, U.S. secretary of the Interior for . oil and gas development in New Mexico.
