A newly established center at Freeman hospital aids pre-school age children and those at that stage of development to over come the handicaps of cerebral palsy. The center provides treat ment each Friday morning for victims referred to it by their physicians. It is maintained by the hospital and the Tri-County Cerebral Pal sy Association. Miss Marilyn Blanke, occupational therapist at the hospital, is in charge of the center. She is assisted by Chuck Chirley, the hospital’s physical therapist, and volunteers from the United Council of Church Women of Joplin. Miss Blanke is shown at a top assisting six-year-old John Dally and seven-year-old Shirley Fithian with exercises for the hands and arms. Mrs. Floyd Havens of 1902 Bird avenue, a member of United Council of Church Women, is aid ing in the work. The Dally boy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Dally of 631 North Moffet ave nue. Shirley is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Fithian of 3347 Oak Ridge drive. Below, Chirley is giving two year-old Terri Lynn Connelly ex ercises for reciprocal movement of her legs to establish a reflex pattern for walking. Her mother, Mrs. Roy Connelly of 422 Florida avenue, watches Chirley at work so that she may be able to help her daughter with additional ex ercises at home.
