Baker ApprenticesReceive Diplomasat School ExercisesSchool lias first hakiiiApprentices in the Stateto have Certificates a-warded for completionof work.On April 25 an apprenticeshipbanquet was held at the VocationalSchool for the purpose of awardingthree diplomas to the first bakingapprentices who completed the requirements of the three year indenture.The above pictured class is theresult of an industrial survey madeover three years ago. One of thepurposes of that survey was to discover opportunities for vocationaltraining occupations that the Vocational School could cooperatewith in organizing courses of instruction. Baking was found tooffer good possibilities for a period of three to five years and shortly after the local baking establishments agreed to cooperate withthe school in a training program.About forty guests were pre-ent at the dinner. These includedlocal and out of town master bakers, local journeymen bakers, andlocal apprentices. Several directors and coordinators from sur-wrounding towns were present; inaddition to representatives of theFleischmann and Richter YeastCompanies, the local Board of Vocational Education and membersof the State Board of VocationalEducation. Mr. O. H. Senglaub,President of the local Board presided at the meeting.Mr F. M. Laufenburg, instructor of the apprentice class, talkedon the subject of “What Apprenticeship Means to the Baking Industry.”aThe Wisconsin Plan of Apprenticeship” was discussed by W. F.Simon, State Supervisor of Apprenticeship. Short talks weregiven by Mr. L. R. Evans, Sheboy-Ninrd^ local ,Director; Miss Emma Toole, GreenBay* Coordinator; C. L. Conroy,local Coordinator; Oscar Richterof this city; Mr. Fred Cobb, of theGreen Bay Sunlit Bakery; and Mr.H. Dick of the local Dick BrothersBakery.The main address of the evening and the presentation of diplomas was made by H. G. Noyes, representative of the State Board ofVocational Education. His talkwas a remarkably well presentedoutline of the Wisconsin idea ofVocational Education and the diploma presentation to the boys animpressing urge to continue togrow in their chosen field and tobecome effective citizens to theircommunity and state.The apprentices receiving diplo-•Ias have completed in the threeyears of their indentured period,400 hours of Vocational School attendance. In school, both in related work and shop practice inthe kitchen, they are under thesupervision and instruction of F.M. Laufenburg, manager of theParkview Bakery of this city.
