Stopa Victim PaysFor Jilt With Life(Continued from page 1)also saw a woman come out of the house and so down the street. Later she heard a car move off.H. J. Search, of the same locality, retold the incident, when he stated he heard three shots near the Smith home and upon investigation found Mrs. Smith on the outside of her home. She j told him Wanda Stopa had shot Henry Manning.Leonard Gleason, police officer of Palos Park, was next called and he also stated that he was told Wanda had killed Manning, in an attempt to end the life of Mrs. Smith. He saw Manning on the floor. He was dead. Upon investigation traces of three bullets were found in the apartment.Y. Kenly Smith, ad writer and chief factor in the double death tragedy, was called and told of his relations with Wanda. He said he had known her for some time, but was not told of the shootig affair, until he was called at his office. His wife advised him over the phone of the deed. He told the deputy coroner he had not seen the Stopa woman since last January.During the course of the inquest, Ernest Wood, driver of the death car was apprehended and brought in to testify. He told the jurors where he had first taken Miss Stopa, as a passenger, then stated he had waited at Palos Park until she had finished the shooting (of which he had no knowledge) and had taken her back to the city. The case was given to the jury at a late hour Friday, and after a short deliberation, that body voted to declare Wanda Stopa guilty of first degree murder and order her apprehended and bound over to the grand jury. The woman killer was not taken alive. She paid the price of her folly, by taking her own life in a hotel at Detroit, thus, the law was cheated again, but the wrongs of the Smith household were vindicated, as Wanda sacrificed her life and a brilliant career, as the result of the wrong slants at life and the application of the unwritten code, which permits one woman to take from another, that which is most sacred—the husband.\\t. it.
