ALDEN, Mrs. Grimm of Glenville has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. M. P. Howe, in Alden the past week. Forde Van Wie has been spending a few days with his brother Hiriam in Alden the past week. Miss Maude Emerson returned home Monday evening from Man kato after spending Sunday with relatives at that place. Mrs. F. Wendt made a business trip to Albert Lea Thursday. The Methodist Ladies’ Aid Society met with Mrs. A. McClinton, Mrs. Mae Washburn assisting hostess. Miss Nellie Tarkin and little nephew returned to Buffalo, Minn., the latter part of last week after spending two weeks at the home of the former, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Lar kin in Alden. Mesdames Greeley and Moore spent Thursday in Albert Lea on business. The friends of Mr. Josiah Jones will regret to learn of his serious ilness. He is reported to be very low at this writing. Mr. W. Rasmussen, Alfred Chris tensen and C. Henderson motored to Minneapolis early Sunday morning, returning the same evening with Mr. Alfred Christensen’s new five-pas senger car. They report having a fine trip. Dr. RB. A. Kamp has moved his of fice fixtures into the rooms over the eld store, and is now nicely lo cated. _ Mrs. J. A. Van Wie of Minneapo lis was in Alden Monday visiting at the H. Van Wie home for a day. Miss Ruth Reynolds of Albert Lea spent a few days with her Alden friends last week. Mr. Forde Van Wie and friend, Mr. Thorson, took the train Satur day morning for Eagle Grove, Iowa, after spending a few days at the home of the former’s brother, H. Van Wie. Mr. Gast Melder arrived from Minneapolis recently and is the guest of his mother for a short time before departing for Canada. Mr. Earl Stanley returned Tues day from Oskaloosa, Iowa, where he had been called by the death of his brother-in-law. While in Iowa he called on his mother who has been ailing. Mrs. Gilbert Austin took the ev ening train Saturday for Osakis, Minn., after spending several weeks with her brother, F. Carey, who has been in poor health. The Odd Fellows held their anni versary of their order last Friday evening in the Methodist church, Rev. Moore officiated and a special choir assisted in furnishing music. Ash Post held a meeting recently for the purpose of consulting the members in regards to observing Memorial Day, May 30. It was de cided to have a meeting in the city hall this week Tuesday and talk the matter over with the citizens. The post have so few members it is im possible to take up the matter with out assistance from the citizens. Mr. H. H. Berg has been trans ferred from the Alden station to Tisanors on the east end of the Mil waukee railroad division. Mr. and Mrs. Berge will leave for that place soon. Their Alden friends wish them the best of wishes. The J. A. Bryant residence has been under repairs the past week. Mr. W. Rasmussen and sister Mrs. Tanson motored to Clarks Grove Friday. Mesdames Wendt and Wangen were in, Albert Lea Thursday on business. Mr. C. S. Johnson returned Thurs day evening from Wichita, Kansas, where he had been called some weeks ago by the illness of his aged father, Samuel Johnson. The lat ter passed away last week and his remains were laid to rest in Kansas. The deceased was a resident of Albert Lea for many years, but in later years has been living in Kansas. Miss Kuentopp has been a guest at the Van Wie home the past week one night last week while J. FR. Gleason and Hans Scotte were sail ing on Gem Lake, a squall struck them and they were capsized in the middle of the lake. Both parties proved themselves good gailors as it took very short time before both parties were on top of the overturn ed boat, awaiting the rescuing party to come to their assistance with a row boat. This caused considerable excitement as well as laughter among the friends of both. Mr. Josiah Jones passed away Monday morning after an illness of aout two weeks, suffering from a complication. The deceased has been a resident of Alden for a num ber of years, having moved into Al den from his farm north of the vil lage and purchasing a home east of town. Mr. Jones has been in fail ing health most of the time the past five years. He was in his eighties at the time of his death. He leaves a wife, one daughter and five sons to mourn his death. The funeral had not been arranged for at this writ ing. The friends of the herearea relatives express their deepest sym pathy. WEST ALDEN. Wm. Ransdell and wife were visi tors at the A. M. Glaizer home Sun day afternoon. W. H. McKean and wife were Al bert Lea visitors Tuesday. A number of the young people had a surprise party at August Olson's Saturday evening. Mrs. Wm. Ransdell spent Wednes day and Thursday with Mrs. Laus near Walters. Mrs. E. L. Hochette was visiting friends on our street Thursday. Wm. Ransdell was an Albert Lea visitor Wednesday afternoon. Harold Glazier has been helping King Howe put in his small grain.
