HENRY CARLHrnrv K. Curl, a native lt;»1 New *Oxford and tin* oldest as well as one of the most respected citizens of Mont Alto, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon, while on his way to attend a wood sale of Charles DeardorfT, afourth of a mile hack of the stateforestry.Mr. Carl left his home between 12and 1 o'clock. accompanied l»y Coleman lined and Charles H.. Simmers.On tht* road to the state forestry la*was compelled to sit down for a fewminutes, something which he oftenwould do lt;n account of shortness ofbreath. The other two gentlemenwalked slowly on. Mr. Carl saying he would be along after while.After resting a few minutes la* again started and got as far as the large stables at the state forestry, when he an reeling and fell over. Adam little son of .John Kauffman, sawC thim fall and ran into the stable and called Mr. MeAvov. a student whowas doing some work in the stable.Mr. MeAvov ran out fpiickly and soon saw that death was almost athand. Mrs. Conklin, matron of theacademy, also hurried there to lieof assistance, if possible. There was. however, nothing to be done. Mr.Carl was soon ]ast all help.Mr. Carl was born near New Oxford.l)eceml)er 2*. 1810. and was, therefore, 92 years old on his last, birthday. He^/lwas a plasterer by trade and in his young days taught singing being well versed along musical lines. For many years he worked for thelate Col. George B. Wiestling in themines and was considered one of thebest miners at the Mont Alto works.Mr. Carl was a robust and heartyman and was sick very little in all his life.
