tor thf Chronicle it Sentinel.Tlie Stephen* Guard. This company has been raised and organized in compliance with the last requisition of President Davis, in a lew days, through the indefatigable exertion and iutluence of the lion. Geo. 0. Dawson, and \vc are mformed, will commence to drill immediately for eflective service. Its name is in honor of our distinguished friend and statesman, Uon. A. II. Stephens, whom thiscompany delights to honor, for tue distinguished memories of the past. The company is composed of the best grit and flower of ttie country. They are a stout, hale, hearty, active, uthelic game set of men, and will contend every inch ot ground with Abrahanm’sdeluded host upon the field. They are all game cocksof the right character, and have been raised torural life, with a gun in one hand and a fox squirrel in the other ; they understand the use of arms, and are splendid marksmen, and every man will fight to his boot heel, and die a martyr to his country's honor, if the fate of war should require. We are proud of the name and the eompuny. Its ollicors are young ineu, they are—Captain—Geo. 0. Dawson.1st Lieut.—John C. lteid.2d •• —Win. S. Davis.3d “ —Wm. H. Clark.Orderly—Frauds 11. Cone.At ameetiugol the citizens of Greene county, held here Yesterday (Friday,) it was proposed by Prof. II. li. Tucker, that money and means should be raised by subscription for our soldiers, and to provide for their families while absent. Where- ! upon a runuiug discussion ensued with many gentlemen of the military, when a resolution was i offered by Capt. G. 0. Lawson, of the Stephens Light Guard, requiring the Inferior Court of the | county, to issue bouds to the amount of live thousand dollars or more, which was unanimously adopted. Thus you see, Greene county is determined to stand by her children in this hour of trial. At this meetiug Col. Miles W. Lewis and Prof. H. U. Tucker delivered chaste and patriotic addresses to the Ureeue Rifles and the citizens generally, which were rapturously received by the crowd. We were proud to sec so large a turnout of the citizens, and more especially the ladies, for they are the institution that will always set our men to fighting. The Dawson Greys were here from Penfieid, (some dozen or so,) to participate in the general good greetings of the citizeus. The Dawson Greys are a fine company, with good oack-bones and plenty of chivalry,* and tine officers. We will bet our pile also ou this company, for they, like the Stephens Light Guards, have been raised with a guu in oue hand and a fox squirrel in the other. The Green Rifles are also a tine company, and will fight accordingly. You have heard ni them before. The Dawsou Greys will lea\e for Virginia on Sunday or Monday’s train.Lexicon.
