tor thr Chronicle if- Sentinel.TIip StoplieiiM liis;lit Gnard. This company lias been raised and organized in compliance with the last requisition of President Davis, in a few days, through the indefatigable exertion and influence of the Hon. Geo. O. Daw sou, and wc are informed, will commence to drill immediately for effective service. Its name is in honor of our distinguished friend and statesman, Hon. A. II. Stephens, whom thiscompany delights to honor, b,r the distinguished memories of the past. The company is composed of the best grit and dower of ttie conutry. They are a stout, hate, hearty, active, athelic game set of men, and will contend every inch otground with Abrahama’s deluded host upon tbe tic Id. They are all game cocksof the right character, and have been raised torural life, with a gun in one hand and a fox squirrel iu the other ; they understand the use of arms, and are splendid marksmen, and every man will tight to liis boot heel, and die a martyr to his country's honor, if the fate of war should require. We ure proud of the name and the compuviy. Its officers are young men, they are—Captain—Geo. O. Dawsou.1st Lieut.—John C. Heid.»d “ —Win. S. Davis.3d “ —Wm. H. Clark.Orderly—Francis H. Cone.At a meeting of the citizens of Greene county, held here yesterday (Friday,) it was proposed by Prof. H. if. Tucker, that tnoueyand means should be raised by subscription for our soldiers, and to provide for their families white abseut. Whereupon a running discussion ensued with many gentlemen of the military, when a resolution was offered by Capt. (I. O. Dawsou, of the Stephens Light Guard, requiring the Interior Court of the county, fo issue bonds to the amount of live thousand dollars or more, which was unanimously adopted. Thus you see, Greene county is determined to stand by her children iu this hour of trial. At this meeting Col. Mites W. Lewis aud Prot. H. ii. Tucker delivered chaste and patriotic addresses to the Greeue Kitlesandthe citizens generally, which were rapturously received by the crowd. We were proud to see so large a turnout of the citizens, and more especially the ladies, for they are the institution that will always set our men to fighting. The Dawson Greys w’ere here from Penfield, lt;some dozen or so,) to participate in the general good greetings of the citizens. The Dawson Greys are a tine company, with good oack-bones and plenty of chivalry, and tiue officers. We will bet our pile also on this company, for they, like the Stephens Light Guards, have been raised with a gnu in one hand aud a fox squirrel in the other. The Green Rides are also a tine ceuipauy, and will tight accordingly. Von have heard of them before. The Dawson Greys will leave for Virginia on Sunday or Monday’s train.Lbxicox.
