ACORN letter has J inaccuracies: To the Editor:A March 23 letter-writer asks, “My 2 question is why and for what reason 2 would the Obama administration enlist r ACORN’s help in the Census?” Putting aside the numerous ACORN-related inaccuracies in the letter, like the fact that ACORN has “not” been convicted of any “voter fraud” crimes (one could easily say the letter is nuts”), it should be pointed out that the Obama administration hasn’t “solicited” ACORN. 2 Many organizations responded to this 1 call for assistance (http://2010.census. - gov/2010census pdf SellSheet_General_ t Audience.pdf). For example, the town of • Montclair, N.J. (http: www.montclairn-1 jusa.org/content/view/1868/325/).2 According to the Department of Com-i merce, the 2000 Census involved “almost i 1 million temporary' workers that worked■ on the Census. Partners Programs involved more than 140,000 local partners■ (http://www.commerce.gov opa press' Secretary Evans 2001 Releases March_ 06_Census.htm).1 In the end, ACORN is just another Re-i publican dog-whistle, targeted at the ears I of those who have flushed the horrendous t misdeeds of the Bush administration down the memory hole, while also hoping that President Obama fails in his efforts 1 to undo the mistakes of the last eightyears. While it is truly unfortunate that there are Americans who hope America fails, that is certainly their right. But it does seem somewhat counter-productive.Finally, the letter-writer “is convinced the Obama administration is a “socialist” government. Really? The editor of Socialist Magazine, presumably a “real socialist, disagrees. Perhaps, as they say, “it takes one to know one?(http: www.washington-post.com wp-dyn content article 2009 03/13 AR2009031301899. html?hpid=opimonsboxl)Eric KaneExeter
