According to Chew the origi nal suggestion, ‘‘Was the brain child of comedian-civil rights fighter, Dick Gregory.’’ Chew did agree with Gregory that an appointment of a Negro to the post would help the racial sit uation in Chicago. ‘But I don’t expect that Chi cago will be afflicted by the same racial outbursts that hit the city last summer. With the positive programs being formu lated by Martin Luther King and others, I’m sure good sense and rsponsibility will prevail,’’ Chew concluded.
