Dormitory DedicatedErected at a cost of approximately $400,000, modern Holmes Hall, housing 92 women students and eight staff and faculty personnel, was dedicated February 22, and named in honor of President Merrill J. Holmes of Illinois Wesleyan University at Bloomington. It was through Doctor Holmes that the Pfeiffers became interested in the college, and the initial gift of $15,000 on the erection of the dormitory came from Mrs. Pfeiffer's estate. Inasmuch as the family did not desire that their name be carried on the building, the trustees voted to name it in honor of Doctor Holmes—the close per-sonel friend of the college's largest individual benefactor.Furniture and furnishings for the building were provided by the Women's Society of Christian Service, the Methodist Church, while Mrs. James P. Brawley and Dean of Women Phoebe Burney were responsible for its decoration. The student rooms are furnished with maple colored furniture, while the suites which are occupied by faculty personnel contain period furniture. The building contains a reading room, kitchenette, and residence laundry.
