IIBuddy Poppy Day Will Be May 6thThe general chairman of the Strawberry Festival Committee, Mr. '^Bobert Schaefer, has given permission to the Cullman County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2214 to sell poppies on one of the festival days. May 6 will be “Buddy Poppy Day.In order that Cullman County citizens may understand about this sale, Mr. John K. Thomas, Chairman of the “Buddy Poppy” Committee, was asked for information about the Buddy Poppy. Mj. Thomas stated, “When a person buys a poppy from the Ladies’ Auxiliar3r, its co-workers, or from a veteran, every cent that is contributed will be invested in the care of veteran’s orphans, the comfort of his bereaved widow, or in the care of a worthy needy veteran.”The Buddy Poppy Sale supports the Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Home at Eaton Kapids, Michigan, where orphans of veterans are cared for, and educated by the V. F. W.Disabled veterans in government hospitals make the Buddy Poppy and earn money while they are hospitalized. In doing this, they feel secure in the knowledge that the V. F. W. will help them if they need it.The Buddy Poppy is small, but its power to do good is unlimited. When a person buys one he honors the heroes of three different wars. This year there are about sixteen million living veterans of World War II, World War 1, and the Spanish-American War.Festival Chairman Schaefer hopes the festival visitors will buy a poppy on Poppy Day. He says, “If it had not been for these veterans, we could not havea wonderful Strawberry Festival in Cullman, Alabama. Wear a poppy, May 6, rejoice in your freedom, and give thanks for the privilege of honoring our veterans.”m1
