Few persons who read the interesting letter to the editor from H, C, Wilson, prominent newspaper man of Parkers Landing, regarding the possibilities of this great watershed district in relation to the projected slackwatering of the Allegheny river rendering it navigable from Pittsburg to Olean, which was published in the Democrat a short time ago, had any idea that the project was so near realization. The Allegheny National Forest means much to Smeth-port and to McKean county in general. The jilan is altruistic in giving back to the people these beautiful hills, reforested and restocked with game, to a degree second only to the project’s practicability. The creation of vast reservoirs, in our narrow, deserted valleys to hpld the angry flood waters in leash, until the water is later needed to keep the great river filled at low water period, offers possibilities of beautiful lakes through the wilderness tract, The plan will not only open a great artery of water travel via the Allegheny river from our very'door to tlie Gulf of Mexico; but from, the other' side of the.divide, a f$w miles distant from Smethport will open another great outlet through the Susquehanna-river to the Atlantic seaboard.
