It is thought that the fire arted from a spark ti om a Big j our engine which ignited the roof ( a soloon and when this started to jrii the burning si,ingles were cared to oilier buildings many 1;unfed feet away.Everything in the path ot the fire tts consumed. The wind earned the fines along the l. ail. snoot and in short time liousc-s in various pans , the resident district were burn-g. Men. women and ci.iiurer. work-franticaily to save a Hi tie of their mselioUl goods. Wagons wl-vo hui-idiy loaded and driven outside thewn, and as last as the- goods could piled iu safe places the teams re‘driven back as near the burning strict as possible. In many instan-s where people were able 10 carry eir goods from houses they were mpelled to leave piles of nierchan-s in vacant lots and seek safety in gilt. The fire lic-ked up the little llections of articles representing entire possessions 01 many fames and continued to reach out for her dwellings.The only building which was not istroyed is the brick block occupied the Carbon National Bank. While e building is damaged it is believed at the safe withstood the fire. Buses? men say that nearly all the ildings in the business district re insured and it is expected that actically all will be rebuilt at once. The following business houses ere destroyed: Carbon Mercantile mpany, owned by W. E.
