Encampment Meeting at Watertown.The third animal meeting of the Dakota encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic. at Watertown, is reported to have been an enjoyable uffair. A large number of veterans were present, including many distinguished officers. The emcampment was called to order by Commander Lucas. Commander Lee was appointed secretary for the session.Gen. Dennis of Yankton introduced a resolution tl.at the department of Dakota endorse the selection of Mason City. Iowa,Jat the site for a soldiers’ home to be established by the State of Iowa, which was rc* erred to a special committee and afterwards tabled. At the suggestion of the officers a substantial sum was raised Tor the treasury of the woman's relief corps.Commander Lucas delivered his annual address, lie congratulated the department on its flourishing condition. One year ago he found it $-150 in debt. By strenuousef-forts it has now a cash balance on hand of $427.37. Twer.ty-Bix now posts have been formed during the year, making now 112 posts, with a membership of 3,040. He regretted the vigorous rule that requires the 1 suspension of members six months in arrears. Meager or no reports from many s posts render the statistical part of a com- 1 mander’s duties difiicult. Posts make a •' grave mistake in changing yearly post adjutants and quartermasters. He paid a '• tribute to the Woman's Relief corp6 and the lt;Sons of Veterans. The reports of the assistant adjutant general and quartermaster were then read.A reception was tendered to the members of the G. A. R. and Woman’s Relief corps at Goss hall. The following, with several selections by a band, was the programme:Welcome address. Mayor Thomas; army song; response. Commander W. V. Lucas; address, Hon. C. Williams; address. Hon.A. C. Mellette, who eloquently rehearsed the deeds of valor the veterans had performed in a eler.r and masterly manner, lie pointed out the dangers to which the future of our country may be exposed.The attendance was immense. The usual manner of holding campfires obtained and impromptu spoeches were interspersed with vocal and instrumental music, and at 10 o’clock the camp tire was broken up and the veteran guests and their ladies repaired to Goss’ hall, where asplcndid banquet, with plates laid for GOO, was served by the ladies oi the Watertown Kelipf corps. Mrs.H. R. Pease, president, of the Watertown Belief corps, acted as mistress of ceremonies. .A grand parade look place, 400 veterans being in line.
