SMITH AND BOYKINTHEY SEEK TO HAVE CARRIED THE DAY IN RUSSELL COUNTY.Beat meetings were held in Russell county yesterday for the purpose of selecting delegates to the county convention, which meets at Seale on the 26th of April.Primary elections were held in each of the ten beats in the county. As the convention will nominate two representatives and a county superintendent of education, as well as select delegates to the State convention, much interest was felt in the result.The candidates for the Legislature are Col. John V. Smith and Mr. W. J. Boykin, of Seale, and Col. S. S. Scott, of Uchee.In Beat Girard, the following ticket was elected: W. H. Broyles, L. M. Chalmers, J. H. Tucker, J. H. Martin, D. G. Hood, D. M. Griswold, W. H. Bellamy and Webb Pittman. The delegates are all for Smith and Boykin.Seale selected Smith and Boykin delegates.Smith and Scott got the Hatchechubbee delegation.Hurtsboro went for Boykin and is probably divided on Smith and Scott.No news could be learned from Glenn-ville, Jerniean, Oswichee, Crawford and lichee, as these points cannot be reached by wire. Smith' and Boykin men claim Glennville, Oswichee and Crawford. Scott and Boykin wiil probably get the Uchee delegation, and Boykin and Smith are thought to have most strength at Jerni-gan. Well posted Russell county men said last night that the result of the beat meetings practically assures the nomination of Smith and Boykin for representatives.It is thought that every beat in the county has selected an anti-Kolb delegation, but it is believed that the convention will send uninstructed delegates to the State convention.
