Daring Outrage.—A murderous Assault took place at Sevastopol, (one of our suburbs) on Friday eight last. We give the leading facte as they have been given to us. It appears that on that day Freeman Carrington, a worthy young man who resides with his mother in Sevastopol, had been to this city and became cognizant of sundry violations of the liquor laws, which he feltit to be his duty to make complaint of.He accordingly filed affidavits before Mayor Lyle against several saloon keepers, and the cases were set for hearing on Saturday. On Friday night a carriage and two horses was hired at one of our liveiy stables, in which four men rode over to Carrington’s, arriving between 8 and 9 o’clock. Two of the men got out—one knocked at the door and told Carrington a friend wished to see him in the yard. He went out and was immediately attacked by one of the men striking him a heavy blow with slung shot or some other missile in the forehead. Carrington gave the alarm, when a neighbor having an axein his hands came to his assistance.—The two men fled to the carriage which was driven off. Carrington came to town in company with some friends and had his wound dressed by Dr. McIntyre, who gave it as his opinion that it had been made with a slung shot or some sharp instrument. The carriage was returned to the stable about 2 o’clock the next morning. No arrests made—the guilty parties as yet unascertained, but we hope will be brought to justice. Oar temperance friends and others will not be slow to conjecture tbe motive which prompted this murderous attack.
