Monte Vis-' ta Ave, also existed at that time, 5 but insofar as the name was con-d eemed, it was just another ave-*.nue.: In 1945, the population of the~ area which we know today as I Monte Vista was approximately ; 1,500, Today the population is 'approximately 10,000. (These ^'population figures refer to that '-area bounded on the north by £-9th St., on the south by Phillips (Dessau), Benson Ave. on ’■the east and Mills Ave, on the •lowest. This is virtually the area -which is presently served by vjhe Monte Vista Fire Depart-:-ment. _- ’ Driving west on A St, from Ben-*rfWson, 10 years ago one would see a mass of oragne groves with one motel and three or four cafes and then the Pomona City limits. Also, in 1945, Mission Blvd. was a two lane highway.With the formation of the Monte Vista Fire District in 1950 and the construction of the Monte Vista Elementary School in 1951, the name Narod was heard less and less. The overall County area lying between Ontario, Pomona and Chino became known as Monte Vista.Friday, Feb. 10, 1956 - The West End Tribune this week started action to obtain a neon sign which will be installed on Central Ave., pointing the way to the Sheriff’s West End Substation east on 8th St.Since moving the substation to its new location, it has been difficult for residents to find it,” Richard Seitz, editor of the Tribune said.
