DALLAS (UP)—R. E. Davis Sr., retired Baptist preacher, disclosed Thursday he is Imperial Klan Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas but said “I won't tolerate viol ence.’ Davis said he is the highest of ficer in the Klan in the three-state area. He said his job is to see “that everything is kept within the law and that we form a close relationship where possible and permissable with local and state authorities.” Davis said the Klan has ‘“‘sev eral men’ in the state Legisla ture. He said all are East Texas legislators ‘“‘with one exception.” He would not disclose names. There are around ‘‘40,000 to 45, 000 . Klansmen in Dallas county, including policemen, “lawyers, ministers and other very promi nent people who won't stand for violence,”” he said. Several Policemen Listed If integration comes to Texas “We'll just have to go along with it until we can get enough strength to do away with it by legal means.” He said there are several Fort Worth policemen listed as Klan memers. Organization in Hous ton, he said, is “going very slow ly’ with only about a thousand members thus far. The Little Rock crisis, Davis said, was “probably’’ brought about by Communists. He said “We believe the doctrines of the NAACP are opposed to the con cept of Americanism’’ and are “ »munich-inspired’ in “‘sever al’’ instances. He said the Klan in Fort Worth is working to establish a high school for use by students in that area in case “our schools are wrecked and ruined by integra tion.” Members Wear Hoods Davis said ‘we are having nothing to do with Little Rock. I do not allow a single man to go within the bounds of Little Rock to organize or participate in Klan activities.” He said Klan members in Tex as wear hoods and robes only to ‘naturalization’ or induction services. The hood, he says, re sembles a parka, leaving the face uncovered to comply with state law. He said no meetings are planned in the Dallas area soon. For public meetings, he said, ad vertisements for speeches on “Americanism’ are placed in newspapers.
