Former Faculty Member Dies; Taught 27 YearsMiss Marie Levenhagen, who taught sewing here at the Vocational school for many years prior to her retirement in 1940, died last week at the Holy Family hospital following a lingering illness. Her home was at 920 N. 15th street.Funeral services were conducted Friday by the Rev. C. H. Phipps of the First Presbyterian Church, at the Pfeffer funeral home. Interment was in Evergreen.Miss Levenhagen was a life-long resident of Manitowoc. Clubs, dramatics, sewing and circus costuming were a few of the activities she directed over the span of 27 years while an instructor here. She was the second teacher to be employed in the old “continuation” school system.First employed to teach sewing to both continuation pupils and to pupils of the Madison full-time school, Miss Levenhagen divided her time between the two. From the first, she taught evening classes in sewing to adults. She was a member of the KingsDaughters.Survivors are one brother, three sisters and two step-sisters.
