OROVILLE, March 28,—Having been painted black by the district attorney, Rev. Madison Slaughter, charged with Attacking Gertrude Lamson, 15, was pictured as a persecuted emblem of virtue by defense lawyers in their Jury argument today. Guy Kennedy and W. H. School er, Slaughter's counsel, reviewed the defense evidence at length. John Murray, for many years sec retary of the Democratic State Cen tral Committee, but now out of poli ces, and engaged in educational work, is in Woodland today. Mr. Murray latest work should be read by teach ers, pupils and heads of families.
