We do not share the Department of Environmental Conservation’s optimistic view of Emerald Green, the proposed development of thousands of homes in southeastern Sullivan County. The DEC seems to make light of testimony by the State Health Department and others at environmental hearings on the paucity of water. Emerald Green’s water draw would appear to be in excess of the region’s supply. Sewerage plans were questioned. Additional pollution of the Neversink River and of other resources is too grave a threat to be easily dismissed.
