THE REDWOOD GAZETTE, REDWOIHERMAN AFFOLTERCOMMITS SUICIDETRAVi,-UHerman Affolter, a nephew of Frank Affolter of Fairfax, who resided on a farm at Golden Gate, was found dead in his garage last Saturday by neighbors. It is reported that he had been dead for about three days when the body was discovered. According to report he had made careful plans to end his life by monoxide gas poisoning as he had stopped up all of the cracks in the garage with rages and closed the I doors and then started the motor of his car and was found sitting in the automobile. The gasoline tank of the car was empty and the switch turned on, giving mute evidence of how he met his death. A number of sparrows, were also found dead in the garage.Mr. Affolter was a son of the late Fred Affolter of Fairfax, who died February 4th at the Union Hospital in New Ulm. Under a will left by his father, he and his uncle, Frank Affolter, were named as heirs to the estate. No reason is known for his rash act. He is survived by his mother, who had been divorced from his father and remarried. A stepbrother was keeping house with him on the farm but was not at home at the time. But little is known here of the details of the affair as Frank Affolter was not notified of the facts connected with the finding of the body or of the funeral.
