OTTOSEN NEWS ITEMSMr. and Mrs. Chris Anderson of Plover, were callers in town last Tuesday.Some of the teachers from here attended Institute at Foit Dodge last Saturday.Miss Bertha Solauw went to Bode Wednesday for a visit at tha Oliver Lae homa.Mrs. Chris Anderson, daugthar,Violet, and son, Colonel, were callers at Fort Dodge last Friday,Miss Nellie Crane of Ames, came home last Friday for a short visit with het parents.Mr. and Mrs. Herman Torgersonand children of Ware, spent Sunday at the Chris Torgerson home.Mr. William Wehrspann Sr., died Saturday at the home of His son, Will Wehrspann. He had been suffering from cancer for several years hut heart trouble was the immediate cause of his death, An obituary is given in the next column.The Ottosen Girls Basket Ball team went to Ida Grove last Thursday. They played thoir first game with Hull, on Friday evening. The score was 19 to 22 in favor of Uttoscn. On Saturday afternoon, they played with Grand Meadow. Herman Wehrspann Sr., of Ottosen, lows, was born Sept. 14th 1853, in Hannover, Germany. His parents being devout Christians of the Lutheran faith brought him to Holy Baptism in his early childhood, and reared him according to the instructions of the Word of God. In his boyhood days he was instructed in the Christian Doctrines, and at the age of about fourteen he was confirmed in the Lutheran church In 1856 hecame to America with his parents I locating in Eastern Iowa In 1876 they settled near Ottosen in Humboldt County, and here he experienced many of the hardships of pioneer life. Ho was an industrious and auccessul farmer.In 1877, he was married to Miss Anr.a Hausch Leitl. This marriage was blessed with five sons and twu daughters; One of these suns, however, died in infancy many years ago. He proved himself to be a good Christian nus-band and father, di 1 ligently di-j rectiog all members of his family to Jtsus, their only Savior, and j teaching them to walk in the taths of faith and righteousness. When oui Lutheran congregation in West Bend was organized he was one of the charter members and took a live interest in the welraie lt;f the j church.Some over four years ago he was afflicted with a disagreeable maldy cancer of the bladder which caused him much intense suffering. Dur ing this bodily ailment the j Heavenly Father wrighted hi n i down with still more suffering.1 For Nov. 23rd. 1923, his daugh-i:denly called from her family circle i and laid to rest, and only two j weeks later his faithful and good wife was taken from him by the hands of death, her earthly remains being consigned to thegrave In all this suffering tin 1affliction however he did not dis-pair, but looked up to Jesus, his great Redeemer, and he fuum) sclace and comfoit, strength and cyurage in the Word of God so that he could bear his croas humbly Since his wife’s departure he made hie home with his son, W. H. Wehrspann, who tenderly cared fur him.He longed for his heaveily hon e and asked God in fervent prayer to deliver; him from all ills atd troubles, and take hni home for Christ's s*ke. Sunday mnrniny, March 22, shortly after mid-night he passed from death to life eternal in the firm faith of a living Savior. He arrived at the age of 71 years, 6 months, and 8 days,1 and leaves to mourn his departure,4 suns, 1 daughter, 14 grandchildren and other telatives and many friendsThe burial occurred March the 24th from the West Bend Luther ar. church.
