Fundraisers were held last weekend for surviving members of the Schock family. Tammy Schock and her sons, Jeremiah and Zachary, died in a fire on March 14 in their Bringhurst home. Rod Schock, Tammy’s husband, and her son, Andrew Smith, survived the fire. Sassy’s hair salon raised $1214 on Sunday by cutting hair for donations. Ann Herron, Danielle Wharff, Erice Hampton, Jill Roth, and Amber Gray all contributed their time and talents, giving more than 100 haircuts in four hours. Herron said the Stone House Restaurant and Bakery contributed cookies to solicit donations. Many people also gave donations of clothing, coloring books and other goods, she said. Kathy Dunbar at Country Hair II said that they also had a great turn out for the event. They, like Sassy’s, had volunteer firefighters and EMTs on hand to collect donations and talk about fire safety. Dunbar said local businesses like Blimpies, Dave’s IGA, Skyline Signs, and Dairy Queen also donated to the effort. After the event on Saturday, they held a service with the emergency personnel, family, and friends, and had a balloon release. “It was a good day,” reflected Dunbar. Julie Gardiner of JAG’s Salon Day Spa donated $10 per person for everyone who tanned at the spa’ on Saturday, but was unavailable for comment at press time.
