If you watched the Academy Awards there was one Lethbridge connection that I'm aware of. Cirque du Soleil was part of a tribute to special effects and former Westwinds Gymnastics instructor, Dan Niehaus, has been training the company’s performers in Las Vegas for more than a year. If you recall there were four girls who came down from the roof over the audience on bungee cords. Dan came up with that rouLine and trained with the girls for three weeks, two hours a day, for what amounted to a 19-second segment. And this week Dan will spend an afternoon with past Academy Award winner Hillary Swank to prepare her for an upcoming show she’s doing for Marie Claire, l ie did want everyone in Lethbridge to know that all the Canadians in Vegas watched the gold medal hockey game and wore die flag proudly. He also adds that a case of Labatis Blue is cheaper there than in Canada. On a personal Academy Awards note, 1 was happy to see Handy Newman finally win after 16 nominations.
