A joint agreement among six municipalities in the Peace River region has put local ambulance service in the hands of the Peace River Municipal Hospital as of March 1. Hospital administrator John Veillet said the munic ipalities involved in the agreement are Peace River, Nampa, Improvement Dis trict 17 and 22, Grimshaw, the Municipal District of Peace No. 135, and Berwyn. Total cost of the venture is not known yet, but Mr. Veillet said ‘‘the service should pay for itself’’ and if it doesn’t there is a possi bility of arranging a deficit sharing agreement with the provincial government. Municipalities involved in providing the ambulance service will be contributing according to their economic assessment value. Mr. Veillet said at pre sent only one ambulance is operating. The vehicle has been bought from the Chapel of Memories in Peace River. This company had been providing the ambulance service in the Peace River area but gave it up when it was found un economical. A second ambulance is on order and should be in Peace River in the near future. It will be a profess ional road ambulance. Mr. Veillet said both vehicles will be stationed at the Peace River Municipal Hospital and in service 24 hours per day. He said the hospital in Peace River has made reciprocal agreements with the hospitals in McLennan and Fairview in order to provide ambulance service where ever it is needed. It is not known what percentage each municip ality will be paying towards the ambulance service. Most towns say an estimate is impossible until the total cost of the project is known and so far only ‘‘ball park figures have been studied.”’
