March 28, 1943Y.W.A. Presents Mission ProgramThe Young Women’s Auxiliary of the Baptist Student Union commemorating Annie Armstrong week took during the first week of March its annual offering for home missions. Missions in our own Southern Baptist Convention also include Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, and the Panama Canal Zone. At the general meeting Wednesday, March 14, during the vesper hour, Richie Harris of Raleigh, program chairman of the Y.W. A., presented a very interesting program telling why we should give to the Annie Armstrong offering. Taking part were Julia Hoover of Lincolnton, Gerry Couch of Elkin, Mary Elizabeth Parrott of Henderson, Mary Elizabeth Wrenn of Wise, Yirginia, and Carolyn Wilburn of Greenville, S. C. Afterward the offering was taken. This offering concluded the Home Mission Week of prayer* lield this first week in March for which the missionaries from China, Dr. Hundley Wiley and Miss Martha Pranks, and the missionary from Italy, Mr. Dewey Moore, were our guests.The Y. W. A/s also made news when they presented a skit based on the Y. W. A, theme song “Oh Zion Haste” at the annual state-wide Women’s Missionary Union convention that took place March 9, 10, and 11. The Meredith College choir also took part in this skit.The World Fellowship group, which sponsors a mission on Cary Street in Raleigh, held a revival at the mission from February 28 to March 6. Mr. D. M. Branch, state missionary of the piedmont section of North Carolina was the speaker. Jean Davis of Selma, Meredith freshman, furnished special music. Also, Miss Gladys Keith, who spoke in chapel about the work on the Riverfront at New Orleans, was the guest speaker for the World Fellowship group, Monday night, March 15, She is a home missionary, the superintendent of the four Rachel Sims Missions on the Riverfront in New Orleans.
