Manager llie Gould Estate Desperately Shot By Dog Trainer;ct Greensboro, March 25.—At 2o’clock this morning a large posse of officers, including the High Point night force am1 twobloodhounds, a number of Randolph county deputies and sworncitizens who had volunteeredtheir services, were reportedstill to be in Randolph connty searching for Lert English, whoshot and desperately woundedJohn Armstrong, manager of the hunting preserves of George Gould, yesterday afternoon atArchdale,IThe posse, who went on the search at nightfall, were thrown off the track by John Lee Lowe, a brother-in-law of Eng 3h, who told them the man they wanted had gone to his (Lowe’s) homeii\I!inear Archdale and would givehimself up. The officers immediately went there and learned that their man had not beenthere. They lost no time insecuring a warrant for Lowe,whom they placed, under arrest as an accessory after the fact.English, who is a dog trainer and hunter, and who knows almost eveary inch of ground in thesection where he is in hiding, issupposed to be attempting to make his escape through Ran-| dolph county to some railway line. From High Point were Chief of Police Ridge -and Officers Stone, Welch and McGhee the entire night force.At 2 o’clock this morning Mr, Armstrong was reported to foe speedily sinking, andlittle hopes were entertained Tor his recovery, Apparently henot survive the delicate operation required and for which Jr. Stokes from Salisbury was rusfo-Ied through the country by automobile.The shooting of John or “Jack” .Armstrong, was reported as a’ reold bloBded affair, and oce. af-:*ed. at Archdale at 5 o’clock, a li ttle village three miles south of High Plt;Kaat, The contents of a pistolwere emptied at Armstrong, wh tried to escape behind a tree. Armstrong got out of the automobile and the two tal ked for a few .'minutes, supposedly about a lease.
