.Mr. and Mrs. John Pida, son David, and daughter Theresa, spent the weekend visiting their son Michael, a student at St. Francis School, Spring Grove. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Louis Barbano of Elk land. On Saturday they attended a play “The Billion Dollar Saint,” in which Michael had a role, presented by the Theatre Guild and followed by a candlelight dinner. On Sunday they attended Mass and breakfast for the guests, and the awards program. Michael, president of the National Honor Society at St. Francis, presid ed over the program and spoke on the meaning of membership in the soci ety. Featured speaker was, Dr. Wil liam DeMeester, Dean of Academic Affairs of York College. Volleyball Game The North Penn girls volleyball teams opened theirs season with a big double win against Mansfield. The varsity game scores were: 15-6, 9-15, and 15-6, as Cheryl Davis served 10 in a row. Sharon Manikowski, Pam Og den, and Deb Krause led the great Panther victory with spiking, and Holly Haynes, Lori Baker, Carol Fredrick, and Connie Crukshank “Set” them up. The JVs then took the court. Their game scores were 7-15, 15-7, and 15-12. Liz Brion, Gayle Cruk shank, Mary Kay Dalton, Sandy Stockton, Janie Dwyer, and Debbie Toothacker led their team to victory. Last week's winners of the “Writ ers of the Week” contest at the ele mentary school were: 4th grade, Diana McGhee; 5th grade, Robin Holly; and 6th grade, Mary Strange. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Swinsick were their son, Eugene and granddaughter, Rox anne, of Southington, Connecticut. For local news, read the Gazette.
