He received his master’s degree at Michigan State university where he helped coach the wrestlers,and then moved to Oregon Stateas head coach.Thomas likes the state of Oregon immensely, and slyly suggests that some of Iowa’s outstanding high school matmen should try the climate out around Corvallis.Boosts Oregon Centennial He is -spending part of his time dispatching Oregon Centennialprop Uganda. Called “America’sbiggest^ 1959 Birthday Party,”the literature says an exposition and international trade fair will be held at Portland, Ore., from June 10 to September 17.Thomas feels that in a few years some of the Pacific coast schools will become wrestling powers. About 140 high schools in Oregon have wrestling programs at the present time, the Olympic star noted.Accompanying Thomas and the CSC squad on the trip was Virgil Cavagnaro, a west coast wrestling official, who lives in Portland. Cavagnaro wil help officiate the tournament at Iowa City.Track WorkoutsSixty-eight Marion high schoolboys have checked out tracksuits, according to Coach Les Hippie. Suits were issued Monday and Tuesday nights.WalkerWorkouts began Tuesday and will continue indoors and on 5th avenue until the track is dry enough to be utilized.First meet has been scheduled for April 3 here with Anamosa.
