BUSH FIRE BRIGADES.Sutherland Shire Appointments.The captains and deputy-captaine of the recently-established bush fire brigades throughout the Shire of Sutherland were officially appointed by a resolution, adopted at a re cent meeting of Sutherland Shire Council. The subject was brought forward when letter was received from the Bush Fires Advisory Committee concerning amendments to the Bush and Rural Fires Prevention Order, made under the National Security Act. A list of shires in which burning-off could be carried out by permission of the local council was included. However. Sutherland Shire was not included in that list. The latter set out an explanation of the order relative to burning-off; charcoal kilns, burning of fire breaks; replacement of tyres In respect of motor vehicles used by bush Are brigades; tea and sugar rations; formation of bush Are brigades; appointment of captains, etc.; Issue of Are equipment; co-operation with military authorities; and the loan of stirrup pumps for bush fire brigades under certain conditions.On the recommendation of the Shire Clerk lt;Mr. D. R. Klrkbyi. the council adopted a resolution, moved by Councillor Dallimore, authorising the formation of the following local bush fire brigades:—Audley Brigade, operating In Audley and National Park; Bundeenli Brigade, operating In Bundeena and National Park; En-gadine Brigade, operating In Enga-dlne and district; Heathcote Brigade, operating in Heathcote and district; and Menal Brigade, operating in Me nai and district. In addition the following local residents were appointed captains and deputy-captaina respectively for the above brigades:--Aud-ley. Messrs. S. E. Stringer (Superintendent of National Park! and C. Horder; Bundeena, Messrs. G. J. Knox and F. G. Nichols; Engadine, Messrs. W. Bower, senr., and J, Hankinaon; Heathcote, Messrs, S. Cooper, senr., and W. Boyle; Menai, Messrs. J. May-man and A. Delardet. The council decided to make application for the loan of a stirrup pump for each local bush Are brigade, under the conditions stipulated.
