Joe Louhren Taken Into Custody For Death of Robert Scott—Proves Innocence and is Released. Joseph Louhiren, policeman at Min ocqua, Was arrested Tuesday by Sher if Jillson and Deputy Vanglan on complaint of certain Minocqua people Who suspected Jim of chasing caused the death of Robert Scott on the night of Saturday February 1. Lou chren was brought to this city but was released, Wednesday morning on motion of Istrict Attorney Miller. No one appeared to prefer charges against the man and there was no evidence on which he could be held. Scott was found dead In his home With a bullet hole in the back of his head on the morning of Sunday Feb ruary HV.” [t was the general supposi ion that the man chad commited sui cide. The fact that Scott's life lay beside the body further added to the suicide theory. The vealict of the coroner's fury was that Scott's death was caused by a bullet fired from as gun in the hands of an unknown per son. From the time of the shooting s few people have been of the opinion that the man was murdered and Louchren, owing to various stories in circulation, has been suspected of the crime. Scott is said to have remarked to his child ren on the night of the shooting that s he was afraid of Louchren whom he believed to be after him. At the In quest Louchren proved that he was at home at the hour of Scott's death. “Monday, Sheriff Jillson decided to make a second and more thorough in vestigation of the affair and in com pany of Deputy Vaughan went to Minocjoa for that purpose. The offi cials called on the people who had voiced their suspicions regarding Louchren and from what they could learn deemed it wise to arrest the marshall, without a warrant, on their own responsibility. When brought to this city Louchren had little diffi culty in satisfying the district attor ney that he had no knowledge what ever of the manner in which Scott had met his death and was entirely inno cent of the damaging complaints made against htox Louchren was dismissed, and the case dropped. . When seem by a representative of this paper Louchren said that he had on several occasions taken charge of Scott when the man was under the in Muence of Mqnor. He believes that Scott thus grew to fear him and imagined that he (Louchren) was go ing to do him bodily damn. The mar shall, like the majority of Minocqua people, believes that Scott while in a lot of temporary Insanity took his own life.
