Republican Convention.1 M*t Saturday the Republican* of Monroe county met in delegate convention at Bloomington to nominate a county ticket, and to name delegatee to the various conventions to be held. The convention was held at the court house, and was attended by a large crowd of Republicans. Jt was thoroughly harmonious, and although for one or two of the office* there was quite a contest, yet there was no bad feeling or friction betrayed on the part of anybody.At 1 o’clock County Chairman Joseph Campbell called the convention to order. Mr. Campbell was chosen as permanent chairman, and Frank Headly, secretary.S. M. Kerr, the present county auditor, was unanimously nominated for a second term.Benton Hough and Thomas K. Robertson were placed before the convention as candidates for sher-itl. Hough was nominated on the first ballot, receiving 53 votes; Rob ertson 43.For treasurer, P. B. Martin, Jus. T. Clark, and W. H. Hancock were the candidates. The tirat ballot stood. Clark, 34; Martin, 33; Hancock, 28. Becond ballot; Clark, !■: Martin, 31; Hanooca, 22. Third ballot. Clark, 53; Martin, 27; Hancock, If, Clark bsing declared the nominee.There were three candidates for coroner— Dr. O. K. Harris, Dr. Sehae/Jer, and Dr. Vermilya. Dr. Harris was nominated on the first ballot, the vote standing: Harris, bo; Schaeffer, 19; Vermilya, 22.Charles Bowers was renominated for surveyor, without opposition.For County Commissioner- Isaac Mitchell, of Clear Creek township, was nominated, the ballot standing: Isaac Mitchell, 51; Thos. Mitchell, 44.Jacob Miller was renominated for Commissioner from the second district.The ticket in considered one of the strongest, nominated by the Republicans lor several years.S. M. Kerr, at the head of the ticket,/is the present auditor of the county, and is not only a popular citizen, but has proved to be one of the best officers the county haw ever had.Mr. ('lark, the candidate for treasurer, is a resident of Bloomington. lie is a thorough business man- straight, upright and in every way well qualified for the duties of the office.Benton Hough, nominee for sheriff, is trustee of Bloomington town* ship, and is well known throughout the county, and bears a splendid record.The two candidates for commissioner, Messrs. Jacob Miller, present commissioner, and Isaac Mitchell, are well known successful farmers, and are good safe men with whom to trust couty matters.Mr. Bowers, renominattd for surveyor, is a faithful ami acceptable official.F-»r coroner, Dr. O. K. Harris, of Klletlsvflle. is one of the most prominent physicians m Monroe county, lie is the youngest son of the late Dr. R. C. Hurris. That he is most popular where he is best known is a powerful argument in his favor as a strong candidate. His many friends in Richland, Washington and Bean hi out* o'in townships, where he is best known, and who were a unit for him in the convention, will do more than their part in bis election thin fall.
