East Heights mayor faces 2 challengers in election contestEast Chicago Heights Mayor Saul Beck faces challenges from two opponents. Calvin Stone and James Williams, in the April 2 village election Seeking his fourth term as mayor, Beck heads the New Independent party slate of candidates His running mates include incumbent village Clerk Edna Mason They are both seeking four-year terms.On Beck's ticket for the trustee spots, are incumbents Grant White, Doris Stone and Curtis Presley Sr for the three four-year terms, and incumbent Trustee Annie M Cole for the one two-year term which is at stake in the race.WILLIAMS leads a slate of challengers for those incumbents They include Marquita J Gill for clerk, and trustee candidates Artis Elmore, the Rev Edward Jackson and Henry Simpson for the three four-year terms Running on their Community Awareness party slate for the two-year term, is Oscar “Jack Jackson Also there is one independent candidate running for one of the four-year trustee terms She is Marcella JohnsonCALVIN STONE Stone is running as an independent candidate for mayor, actively passing out leaflets and gqing door to door His campaign slogans include. Adults and youth working together to form a better working community,” Actions Speak Louder than Words,” and “A New Generation Stone. 41, lives at 1405 Embassy lane He has two children. Marisa Jean and Calvin Jr He was raised in East Chicago Heights and graduated from Bloom high school He also received an associate of arts degree in business administration at Prairie State college, majoring in office management He attended the College of Automation in Chicago, computer programming The independent candidate served honorably 10 years of active duty with the United States Armv and sixWyears with the U. S Reserve and U. S Air Force National Guard While on active duty. Stone served two tours of duty in Vietnam He served as a tank commander and completed the Army Helicopter Maintenance school — Quality Control (aviation) school He received numerous medals and awards while in the Armed ForcesHE FORMERLY was employed by the Boy Scouts of America as well as Lockheed Missile and Space company. He is currently employed with the Illinois Department of CorrectionsIn his statement of candidacy.
