Saturday night, March 25, a surprise birthday party was given Sylvia Ann Martinez, a sophomore at Cathedral High School, by her mother and sister Mrs. John B. Martinez and Mrs. Perry H. Scha nefelt. The affair was held at Mrs. Schanelfelt's home, 608 S. First, Janet Saucedo and Vickie Rod riguez, close friends of the hon oreé were co-hostesses. Refreshments of sandwhiches, cakes, and birthday cake were served, after which Sylvia un wrapped the many lovely gifts given her. ‘ The cake was baked by Mrs. Martinez, and decorated with “Sweet Sixteen and musical notes by Mrs. Nick Polozzi and Mrs. Schanefelt. Approximately 50 girls and boys were present and danced through out the evening to records. The guests signed their good wishes on a napkin that was passed around.
