CASE Of suicide;imPOLICE HAVE NEW THEORY IN 80UTM DAKOTA POISONING CASE.GIRL 5ENI CANDY YO HERSELFPLANNED TO FASTEN CRIME ON WOMAN WHO STOOD IN HER WAY.CHANCE REMARK STARTS INQUIRYDEAD GIRL BOUGHT EMPTY BOX IDENTICAL WITH ONE RECEIVED.Pierre. S. P.. M*«rh 20.—A thorough investigation of the poisoning of Miss Rena Nelson through a box of candy has led to a strongly fixed belief on the part of the officers here that it was a case of suicide planned to draw into serious trouble the woman who stood in the way of Miss Nelson’s probable marriage with Sherman Dye. This conclusion has been reached after gathering up shreds and fragments of evidence, and has been reinforced by investigations which have Just been completed by Pierre officers at Boone, Iowa. While Miss Nelson in a statement made before her death accused Mrs. Dye, and the coroner's inquest did not develop anything to the contrary, there were severalPeculiar Circumstance* connected with the case, and a chance remarL heard on the street after the coroner’s jury had completed its work, started a thorough Investigation. One of the first points to cause comment was the fact that while the girl claimed to have eaten the poison Saturday afternoon, it did not take effect until late Sunday night. Corrosive sublimate Is supposed to work within a few hours after it is taken. The chance remark which started further investigation was that of a confectioner, who said that on the cloy In question Miss Nelson came Into his store and wanted an empty candy box. He had none which would suit her and She Left the Place.A further investigation showed that she went to another confectioner and there bought a box identical with the one she alleged she received, and had it filled with candies Identical with those left in the box.Furthermore, the address on the box was written upon an envelope, torn out and pasted on the wrapper. This was postmarked at Boone, Iowa, .Tan. 23, and had been run through u canceling machine with wave lines. The box was not received until Feb. 27. While the postoffice employes are certain that Miss Nelson received some kind of a box in the mail here, they have at all times been doubt/ul that the box showed the address on the one presented, and a thorough 1 search of the home hasFailed to Show the existence of any box other than the one she Is now known to have purchased. She claimed the address was in a handwriting the same as that of n letter she received from Mrs. Dye In January. Mrs. Dye admits writing her in that month, and as the address pasted on the box was postmarked in January, it may be the same one. After a thorough investigation here the officers went to Boone and investigated. They investigated all the sources possible while In the Iowa city, and have finally reached the conclusion that it was a case of self-destruction. with an attempt to fasten a crime on Mrs. Dye.In*Injcoiranop«errstrCO!ISOIelsrmin*cle on re I onlt; unlt; anthitlarleuprivelanwcislarabwitinrotUrCcraiHithiwlboacsUco;co:ticinpaenprextieB1allberaRisfoinilM.lorCOanthlt;wlTlRt«tuciith»w;chT.Tobeleifit:isprTiAttircl«It!ovV, I
