TEINBACH. city council has agreed to a request to raise the threshold to qualify for an af fordable housing rebate by three per cent. The request came from developers Len Neufeld and Waldo Neustaedter who last year built nearly 40 new resi dences in the city’s west end. The request, raising the threshold level from $120,000 to $123,600, notes construction costs have risen some 20 percent over the past two years, mak ing it difficult for builders to keep costs down. The city last year instituted the $1,000 rebate for every new house being completed under the qualifying minimum of $120,000 as an incentive for developers to build more lower cost housing. The rebate program expires at the end of this year unless renewed by council. Look delish! Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch? At the Doener Grill Express grand opening yesterday there was and it looks delicious. Owners Anna and Gerhard Enns were serving up chicken or beef doeners like this, plus their homemade authentic German baked goods for free—to anyone who walked through the doors. Naturally the tasty offerings of the small Steinbach restaurant (located at 941 Main Street) proved to be very popular, as the eatery was near capacity throughout the day.
