team after Marcelo bolts ?He returns after crash en$s Iridy-ear ventureMark Dismore and San Clemente-based P I Racing, who combined to capture the 1990 Toyota Atlantic Pacific Division championship, have reunited for the; series’ next two races at PhoenixInternational' Raceway on April 4 and; in the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 12.P-l owner Bill Fickling offered Dismore* of Greenfield, Ind., the ride that Jovy Marcelo had for the Atlantic season opener Fdb. 23 at Mia’ipi, and Dismore accepted.Marcelo, the 1991 Atlantic champion’; surprised Fickling by signing to drive with the Euromotorsports Indy-car team after the Miami event.“I, kind of counted on Jovy this yeat” Fickling said. “I gave him an Out in His contract with me, but I didn’t think he’d get an Indy-car ride. -J’m very happy to get Mark back. He’s a super guy to work with.- There isn’t a better oval track (Atlantic) driver in the coun-try,.and he has proven he knows his way around Long Beach. We’re go-ins to run him at least at Phoenix ana Long Beach and then see what happens for the rest of the year.”Dismore, 35, won three Atlantic races and Rookie of the Year honors in 1989' and took eight of 10 races in 1990, including Long Beach by a whopping 22.76 margin in a 37-lap race. He started on the pole in his Toyota-powered, Swift DB-4 chassis and led the entire way.Last year, Dismore moved into Indy-cars with the team owned by Frdnk Arcierb of Laguna Beach, but'his season ended violently because of a crash in practice for the Indianapolis 500.On the day before pole-day qualifying, Dismore had gotten his car, an, three-year-old Penske chassis powered by a Buick, up to a remarkable 216 mph and was trying to go faster on the next lap when he brushed the outside of Turn 4.Dismore lost control and rammed into the inside retaining wall before hitting the pit wall Head on. The chassis exploded on impact. Dismore spent six hours in surgery that night to repair fractures in both feet, his neck, right wrist and right kneecap.Dismore made his return to racing in January, testing with Dan Gurney’s Santa Ana-based All America Racers Eagle-Toyota GTP team, and earned a ride in theMOTOR SPORTSTim Tuttleteam’s effort at the 24 Hours of Daytona on Feb. 2-3.^ Dismore drove 10 of the 24 hours after Rocky Moran became ill, and posted re- . markable laps of near-pole speed, near the end of . his long stint. The car, also driven by^P.J.
