MORGANTOWN, March 22 P— The West Virginia High School Coaches Association recommended for the second straight year today that the State Class A tournament be rotated beween Morganown and Huntington. The vote was 59-29 after Coach Albert ‘“‘Babe’’ Mazza of Ceredo- Kenova, put such a motion on the floor. The proposal was seconded by Williamson’s Tony Gentile. This was about the same as the coaches’ vote last year, but it re presented only a small segment of the total Association membership. West Virginia has 83 Class A and 150 Class B high schools. The Athletic Association’s three man Board of Appeal has full authority in selecting all tourna ment dates and sites. The Board in 1951 polled high school principals on the question. Executive Secretary W. R. Fugitt said today that brought ‘‘no pre ponderance of opinion in favor of a change.’’ The tournament has been held in Morgantown since be ing moved from Buckhannon in 1939. In other action, the coaches: Moved Sammy LeRose of Gauley Bridge, from vice president to president to succeed Mac Bowles of Triadelphia; elected Tony Folio of Clarksburg Washington Irving vice president, and named Forrest Clark of Parkersburg to his 13th one-year term as secretary-treas urer. Recommended to the Board that it set up eight regional football and basketball clinics annually for coaches and game officials. Proposed that the coach of each of eight regional Class A cage tournaments be permitted to re commend to the Board of Appeals three game officials for the State finals. The Board now appoints the tournament officials. The coaches failed to make a recommendation on a suggestion that schools now in Class A, but close to the enrollment dividing line of 115 boys in the top three grades, be reclassified Class B if they desire, Bowles named Coaches Art Clyde of Morgantown and Ron McKinney of Grafton, and Principal Newt Anderson of Buckhannon, to a com mittee to meet with WVU officials in an attempt to obtain a more satisfactory ticket and seating ar rangement for coaches and princi pals at the tournament here. A committee of State track coaches, headed by Huntington’s Ray McCoy, recommended that the 880-yard relay be substituted for the current medley relay effective with the 1953 season. West Virginia is the only State which now has the medley, featur ing 220, 110, 440 and 880-yard legs. The 880-yard event features four 220-yard legs. Most of the discussion on the motion to alternate the Class A tournaments between Huntington and Morgantown was along sec tional lines.
