A. McElwain has contracted to build for Miss Anna McCracken a neat and comfortable two story frame residence of eight rooms and beds. it will adjoin on the north the residence of her mothe r, on King street. ‘The work will com tence as soon as the weather justifies. We hope we may have many more such additions to our city this sea son. Comfortable dwellings to rent are now very scarce in Xenia. A colored brother wet to springgfield a few days ago to consult no lawyer as to the validity of baptist. Pe said when he was baptised the weather wies very cold, and the preacher, not being very well, deputized two deacons to take him down into the water and dip him, while the preacher remained on the bank and repeated the ceremony. He had been told by a white man that he had not been properly baptised, and he wanted to see a lawyer to find out whether it is legal or not. Word was received here this murn ing of the death of David Sroufe, of Springfield, late of this city. Tle died about four o’clock this morning, of ty phoid pneumonia. THe leaves a wife and three children. His age was about obd years.is father’s folks live at Yel low Springs. Tle was a butcher and worked in Xenia a long time, being engaged with Jas. Ralls and Ralls Derrick for about five years up until about one year ago. Deceased was a brother-in-law of James Beall and John Fry, of this city. We were not able to learn about the funeral.
