He picked for bis home what is now the E. M. Breedlove farm, adjoining our little town of Centerton, and George Matthews selected for his home the land upon which Centerton is built. After they had selected their homes, they returned to Ohio after their families, but he was prevented by sickness and other misfortunes from coming back with George and did not returnhere until 1835. By this time bis homehe had picked on was settled by other parties. He Anally settled in Madison township, about two miles east of Brooklyn, where he lived until opportunity offered itself for him to get the farm adjoining his first choice, where he ended his days. His wife, nee Rebecca Matthews, died in 1877. They were both members of the Christian church, having become members about 1840. They were both devoted members. Eleven children were born to them, six of whom passed before them: five still survive them, three boya and two girls; Milton, Lewis, George, Mrs. Win. Rinksr and Mrs. Johnson Fields. We feel assured that they have gone to a better world than this and are at rest, but still we miss them and regret to give them up.
