Uxio* :Dear Sir.—Perhaps a faw local item* from your neighboring village of Westville— enough to let you know that it •* still moves —would not be entirely void of interest to yourself and readers.There is some prospect of our town soon becoming incorporated. This is a step in the right direction. We have some flourishing institutions here which are indicative of the life of our place. The Union League** ia doing considerable good, and the Ladies* Soldiers* Aid Society is doing much in its great field of labor. It is very gratifying indeed to a Teturaed soldier to see the vast amount of interest the ladies at home take in the welfare and comfort of ■Mtdlme* each appreciation of our services gives us nerves snd hearts to endure hardships and privations, and, I assure you, nothing keeps a soldier's spirits up to the figh ting, working point all the time, so well as good backing at home. The young ladies are engaged in getting up an exhibition for the benefit of their society, but when it is to como off I have not yet learned.Mr. J. G. I-eird closed his second term of the Westville High School yesterday. It has been a very successful term—the roll numbering 214 students, and everybody, teachers, pupils and patrons, taking a great deal of interest in it. The examinations of all the departments were completely sucoessful. Miss N. J. Bolster, who teaches the Primary Department, had her school examined on Wednesday. The tinging of the little ones was excellent, as wts also the tinging of the entire school. They presented Miss Bolster with a Photographic Album, as a token of their affection and esteem for her. Thursday, Miss M. B. Laird’s school—the Intermediate Department—was examined, with much satisfaction to all the parents present. Mima Laird is a warthy lady and an energetic teacher. Her •tudeuta also preaented her with a fine album. Yesterday Mr. Laird's department pasaed an equally successful examination. The essays and declamations interspersed with the class.es, were all interesting, and of s high Umr__Miss Emma Osborn, Miss Annie Flood, Miss Romans, McCord, Inman, Clough, others, all read intereatisg performance,.
