The Amherstbdbgh Mission.—A great number of inquiries have been made of us by persons who have sent to Mr. Rice, of the so, called Am-herstburgh Mission, aid for fugitives,' which we have been utterly unable to answer. We know nothing of Mr. Rice or of the Mission except through the letters we have received from him. The first letter we received from Mr. R. was in relation to some goods stored in this city which we found on inquiry had been consumed in the burning of the building in which they were stored. Since that we have received sundry letters acknowledging the receipt of articles sent to the Mission. We find in the Voice of the Fugitive, published by Henry Bibb, the following which we deem it our duty to copy for the benefit of those who have taken an interest in this matter. If we should receive a copy of the protest here spoken of we will either publish it entire or give its substance:Is Begging Degrading?—The colored people of Amherstburgli have recently held a public meeting in that town, and passed strong resolutions against the degrading policy pursued there by a miserable faction, who are constantly sending out colored men through the States, to beg old clothing and money in the name of the Fugitives’Mission House, lt;fcc. Against all this whinning, fraudulent practice upon the public, our brethren at Amherst-burgh, Windsor, Colchester, Chatham, and London have sent forth a manly protest, with an earnest wish that the friends of humanity in these States will show these beggars no quarters at their hands. The so-called “Mission house” at Amherstburgh, with its begging agents, is now considered to be one of the greatest clogs to the advancement of colored people of Canada, that lies in our way. We shall give the proceedings of the above meetings in our next. - *
