Charlotte Hornets owner George Shinn is scheduled to return to his hometown tonight as a coach for the third annual Kannapolis Night of Champions at A.L. Brown High School's Bullock Gym. The special night, a fundraiser for Woodrow Wilson School, matches a racing team against local notables on the basketball court at 7:45. Prior to that, beginning at 6:30, an autograph session will be held. .. Shooting for his third consecutive series title, Rich Bickle Jr. won the Granger Select 300 Big 10 opener Sunday at Concord Motor Speedway. Mike Thomas was second and Terry Brooks third. Tim Williams won the late model stock race over Mark Keeteman of Kannapolis. Gary Gray took the super stock feature and Terry Hog gard won the street stock race. Next Big 10 action is April 9-10. Phoenix finally is getting its Super Bowl. Five years after the Cardinals moved to Arizona and two years after NFL owners took its ultimate game away from the state, they will vote to give it back. The reason: a decision by Arizona voters last November to institute a holiday to celebrate Mar tin Luther King’s birthday. Phoenix originally was scheduled to be host of last January's Super Bowl. But two years ago, the owners took it away the state's voters turned down the holiday, with the provision Phoenix would get the 1996 game if voters approved a holiday. Next year’s game will be in Atlanta and the following year it will be in Miami. Then will come Phoenix. In Calgary, Dan Jansen almost did the an ble. The world’s fastest speed skater went faster than anyone dared dream possible Saturday at the Olympic Oval, coming within a breath of breaking the 36-second bar rier, posting a world record of 36.02 in the 500-meter sprint race. A crowd of 500 sat in stunned silence following the race, then erupted in a wild ovation that lasted into the running of the next couple of pairs. Jansen, of Milwaukee, demolished his own world record of 36.41, which he set in January 1992. On Friday night, he had tied it.
