Grade School Wrestlers in State Tournament Through the sincere efforts of a few intersted parents and the cooperation of the school ad ministration in authorizing sub stitute teachers for Mr. Steve Wolf and Mr. Gus Meschke, 27 grade school and junior high school boys were provided with unique educational experience. Their boys were taken to Kan sas State University on Friday and Saturday, March 15 and 16, to wrestle in the “Fifth Annual Kansas State Future Olympian Tournament.” Although scholastic wrestling has not been as enthusiastically , received in Great Bend as in many other West - Central Kan sas League communities, it was well represented by the young boys who participated from here. While the best representation by a community was achieved by Atwood, Kan, who sent 60 boys, other communities that were well represented included: Great Bend, Kinsley, Russell, Hoxie, El Dorado, Junction Ci ty, Bonner Springs, Wichita and Manhattan. With the exception of Roosevelt Jr. High and the rural attendance centers, all the schools in Unified School Dis trict 428 were represented, indi cating the effort to provide these kinds of experiences and opportunities for boys from all Parts of the community. The big winner for the Great Bend boys was Glenn Dewey from Harrison with first place in the 85 lb. division. Bob Cox, Eisenhower, also wrestled all the way to a second place in the 75 lb. division. Other boys who placed were: Ray Dolezal and Wes Bridgeman from Har rison, Daniel Wilson from Wash ington, and Jim Cavanaugh, Craig Swagerty and Gary Stein from Eisenhower. Also making the trip to Manhattan were: Bob and Bill Griffith, Kelley McCul ley, Tom Curzon, Scott Engle man, Jones Cavanaugh, Jon Reinhardt, Don Sherman, Ken neth Crawford, David Banks, Curtis Luttrell, Thane Moore, Jeff Rathbun, Chet Cale, Scott McLeland, Tom Brown, Scott he, Galen Wiles and Craig Iggs.
